Impossible Not to Write...

My son, Eric, is home from college for a few days. I'm trying to do fun things with him and not focus on book #3 in the series, which I haven't started. I made a huge breakfast this morning, cleaned the kitchen, and he's watching TV and waiting to see what we'll do next. My original deadline for book #2 was July 31. But my editor is going on maternity leave, so I turned the book in early - by July 15. So technically, I'm ahead of the game and should just chill out until the end of the month. But my leading lady for book #3 is screaming in my head for me to start on her story. She's been a minor character in the first two books, and I guess she's ready to take the lead. Everything I do, she's there...wanting to be heard. Problem is, I'm not sure what to do with 'Sadie'. Before I start writing, the plot is always roughly outlined in my mind. But right now, the plot is all over the place. And Sadie doesn't seem to care. "Just start writing and it will come to you!" she blasts. I made big plans for these next couple of weeks - catch up on cleaning, redecorate two bedrooms, and test the four recipes that will be included in book #2. Each book in the series will have recipes in the back, and my editor likes me to test them before we go to print - to make sure they 'work'. BUT, I think I'm going to have to scratch the itch and start writing. Funny...I've been looking forward to a break from writing, but now that I have one...Well, I just don't feel normal. Plus, I'm cranky when I'm not writing. And nothing better than a brand new story. Anyway - Sadie won't hush, so she must have a really good tale to tell. I'll let you know when I get pen to paper. For today, I'm going to try to spend time with my son. He'll be gone back to school soon enough, and I'll be back to missing him! Have a great weekend!

Ah there's nothing like new story love. Then, somewhere around chapter ten, you're ready to kill 'em all off and make it a short story--a tragedy. At least that's how it is with me.
I hate it when I'm working on one story and the next won't leave me alone. Why can't I be that excited about the one I'm working on?
Get those things done around the house, Beth. You can always steal 30 minutes here and there to write something about Sadie. Maybe that'll satisfy her.

    Congratulations, Beth,
Your blog looks great. It will be interesting to read the postings of a working author. Keep up the great work.
