Sadie Spills All
Yep, I said 'normal' was a loose term. So is 'tomorrow'. Sorry it took me so long to post. I've had technical issues. My publisher asked me to set up an RSS Feed so that my posts here would go directly to AmazonConnect and be visible on my profile. RSS Feed??? I'd never heard of this. Apparently my software doesn't support it. That's what the techy people say. I'm not sure if I believe them...
I was going to share what a normal (there's that word again!) day is like for me, but a friend suggested I tell you more about Sadie (Thanks John!). So, I'll come back to a 'typical' writing day later. Sadie was a minor character in books #1 and #2, and she continues to scream in my head for me to begin her story. AND, during my thirty-minute commute to Super Wal Mart on Tuesday, Miss Sadie presented her entire story. I really have to get a digital recorder. As soon as I stopped the car, I began scribbling.
Book #1, Plain Perfect, follows Lillian to Lancaster County where she befriends the young boy working on her family's farm and his widowed father, Samuel. She is on the run from life...and herself. It's a charming story of simple truths and simpler times, of reconciling the past and restoring hope for what lies ahead.
Book #2, Plain Pursuit, delves deeply into the issue of shunning. This is a controversial issue for the Old Order Amish. According to my Amish friend, shunning varies widely from district to district. When Carley arrives in Lancaster County, she is also trying to escape painful memories from her past. She is quickly drawn into a tangled web of family conflict, amidst her growing attraction to shunned brother, Noah. Carley and Noah's story is heartbreaking at times. But in the end, Carley realizes that easing the pain of others is the key to her own self-healing. I love that I was able to incorporate my characters from Plain Perfect into the subplot of this book.
I don't have a title for book #3 yet. It was tentatively titled Plain Exchange but I'm not sure that's going to fly with Sadie's latest idea for the book. Titles are ultimately up to the publisher. My publisher kept Plain Perfect as the title for book #1. However, they changed book #2 from Plain Perceptions to Plain Pursuit.
The first two books offer resolve for the 'Daughters of the Promise'. But Sadie is still alone. A widow in the Old Order District, she is independent, strong, and incredibly lonely. Pushing 30, Sadie has given up on any chance at love. Until Kade Saunders arrives, famous in his own right, and completely off-limits to Sadie. No matter her growing attraction to Kade, Sadie knows they can never be together. The basis of Kade's success is considered taboo by the Old Order Amish. As Sadie secretly defies rules set forth by the Ordnung (Amish Order of Conduct), she knows that to be with Kade would mean leaving all that she knows...leaving the Amish community.
Okay, there's a small hint at what book #3 will be about. ALL SUBJECT TO CHANGE, I'm afraid. Sometimes the characters take over and they just write they book. I love when that happens, but often things turn out much different than planned.
Blessings to all...

Both Noah and Carley are new characters in book #2. They both have strong ties to Lillian and Samuel in Plain Perfect--Noah more so than Carley. That's all ya get for now!

Sadly, my software supports the importing of RSS feeds but not the exporting. But, hey...I'm learning - often the hard way.
