Day Two in Paradise!
I am never eating again.
The day began with our hosts at the B&B preparing omelets, along with French toast, potatoes, fruit, and sticky buns. However, the highlight of breakfast for me is always the granola and homemade yogurt. It is yummy, and I overate.
Next was a sampler from the Bird-in-Hand Bake Shop which consisted of whoopie pie, shoofly pie, chocolate shoofly pie, a sticky bun, and an apple pastry. Yum!
Let's talk about the pretzel and cheese sauce from a road-side stand along the self-guided tour we were taking. My friend, Rene, said it's the best pretzel she's ever had. I mean, she just went on and on about this pretzel. I have to agree with her. It was awesome. The homemade root beer was wonderful as well.
Then there was the Kettle Kitchen - various shops with...guess what??? More food to offer. We tried the smoked cheese, the jams and jellies, and the fudge. Swore we would never eat again.
But alas...it was supper time in Amish Dutch Country, and it wouldn't have seemed right not to eat again. So, Diener's Restaurant was our choice for supper. We chose the buffet. Go figure.
Now, I know it must seem like all we did was eat, but there was a lot of sightseeing and shopping going on. I bought LOTS of things to give away on this blog. All kinds of handmade Amish items. So, stay turned for that in the very near future.
Another cool thing we did was, we stopped along the way and bought hand-squeezed lemonade from a darling little Amish boy with the cutest lemonade stand out in his front yard. Great lemonade. Thank goodness he wasn't selling food.
It was so surreal to see Plain Perfect and Plain Pursuit everywhere we went. The books were in the local bookstore (Gordonville), which is Amish owned. They were in all the bakeries and gift shops, and even in Diener's Restaurant where we ate supper. I'm excited about the book signing tomorrow. Then, after that, I am going with my friend, Barbie, to visit her mother, who is Beachy Amish. Then, after that, we are off to supper with an Old Order Amish family in the area. More eating.
Here are some pics from today! Hope you all have a blessed weekend!
One of the many places we ate today. Do you really think today is National Shoofly Pie Day?
This is Joan Salvanelli from Reston, Virginia, in Riehl's Quilts & Crafts in Leola, Pa. She bought a copy of Plain Pursuit while I was there, and I was able to sign it to her. Sweet lady!
It's disrespectful to take frontal pics of the Amish, so that's why all these pictures are taken from behind them, most of them zoomed in from far away.
A common sight in Lancaster County.
Isn't this a pretty place? All of the Amish homesteads are so lovely!
Another pristine property. Look at all the silos. We don't have those in Texas.
Me and Rene kicked back at the B&B after a full day of shopping and eating!
Rene just reminded me that we have leftover shoofly pie, whoopie pie, and sticky buns...so, gotta run! Will post tomorrow and let you know how the book signing goes. And, can't wait to meet Barbie's mom and dine with another Old Order Amish family! Here's a pic of my friend, Barbie. She is a blessing to me on so many levels. She is a wonderful person who takes the time to read each of my books prior to publication to make sure that I am staying in line with the Amish faith. Barbie was born Old Order, then raised Beachy Amish, and is now non-denominational Christian. She is a super person...and she cooks a fabulous breakfast. Lol....it seems I'm all about the food this trip! I'd be lost without my friendship with Barbie.
God puts people in our lives for a reason. I believe this about my editor, a truly wonderful woman who believed in me and my books. And, I believe this about Barbie. She is very special.
So, until tomorrow...there is a sticky bun calling out to me!!
Peace! Beth
