Amish Sticky Buns

The winner of Cooking with the Fishers is Jane S.  I've emailed her privately.  Congrats, Jane!

I thought I'd share one of the recipes from the cookbook.  I love the Sticky Buns in Lancaster County.  However, it looks like a lot of work to me.  If anyone has made these, or is brave enough to try, please post here and share with us.

Sticky Buns

1 box yellow cake mix
5 cups flour
5 Tbsp. active dry yeast
2 1/2 cups hot water
1 cup light brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup butter
4 heaping Tbsp. cinnamon
cooking spray

Brown Sugar Icing:

1/2 cup butter
1 cup light brown sugar
1/4 cup milk
2 cups powdered sugar

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, flour, and yeast.  Stir well.  Add the hot water and mix well.  Cover with plastic wrap and let rise for 2 hours.  Roll out the dough to 1/4-inch thickness and sprinkle brown sugar evenly on the top.  Cut butter into small pieces and scatter over the top, then sprinkle on the cinnamon.   Roll into a long log and cut into 1/2-inch pieces.  Place in a greased pan and let rise until doubled in size.  Bake at 350 degrees on a greased cookie sheet for 20 minutes or until golden brown.

In the meantime, melt the butter and brown sugar together and cook over low heat for 2 minutes.  Add the milk, stirring constantly until the mixture boils.   Remove from the heat and cool   Beat in the powdered sugar until smooth.  Spread on warm buns and serve.

Hope someone tries it!!  Have a wonderful weekend!!

Beth, the Sticky Buns sound delicious. Wish I had more luck with yeast recipes. I'm copying it anyway; maybe one day I'll get motivated to try again! Thanks for sharing the recipe.
