Hello From Beth Wiseman!

Yes, I'm still alive.  We've been moving in this Texas heat, and I honestly don't remember it getting this hot in June before.  Our temperature hit 104 the other day.  This entire move reminded me that I'm in my 40s.  I don't move as fast as I used to, and I had to take more breaks.  I'm going to blame the heat, though.

This is a good move for us.  We're on about eight wooded acres in total seclusion - the perfect place to write.  It's twice as far for Hubby Patrick to drive to work, so I've promised him dinner on the table when he gets home each night.  Unless it's deadline time, of course...lol.

I heard the coyotes for the first time the other night, and I've seen a few bunnies, but no deer yet.  They're out there, though.  We've seen their tracks.  And the prior owner said there is a bobcat trolling around as well.  My Lab, Chloe, and our Blue Heeler, Blue, love it here - lots of room to roam.

Here's a view from my back porch, facing the woods.  Ignore those blue toenails.  I don't know what I was thinking...LOL.  Hope you all have a great week!

Beth, your place sounds lovely! It might be a little harder to see the deer because of your dogs. When we had a young coon hound visiting us for 6 months one year, he was determined to chase the deer. He even took after a fawn one day, only to have the mother take after him! But while he was here, I had some nice plants near the porch, as the deer didn't come too close. Now, with only the cats, we see lots of deer, but they also come to the porch and eat or tromp down all the plants! This past weekend they ate down to the roots a beautiful airplane plant. I don't know how it managed to last this long. Last year they totally stripped a beautiful poinsettia plant that I had nutured and gotten to bloom. The deer are just so hungry and thirsty in this heat that I can't really blame them for trying to survive however they can. We hear the coyotes sometimes at night, and years ago had 2 bobcats visit our yard, one up near the porch. We did have wild turkeys and 2 wild ducks visiting a few weeks ago, but it's possible the bobcats or coyotes got them, as they stopped coming. It has been a joy living in the midst of all the wildlife. We don't hunt on our place; we just consider it a sanctuary for the animals who come to visit us!

Hi Beth. WOW - What a surprise, I clicked on your website believing I would learn more about you. Never in a hundred years would I expect to find the author of my favorite Amish books. (So much for putting one and one together). We travel through Holmes County Ohio on our way to Michigan. We do see the influence of the English. However, the Amish lifestyle love of God and family and their quiet culture is one which we enjoy returning to time and time again. I enjoy having you as my Amish author, keep 'em coming!

Oh Beth, your place sounds like a little piece of heaven! So happy for you! I want out of the city so bad I can taste it. Are you still in south/south central TX? I know you're still in TX, just wondering if you're still in the same general area where you were. It's been hot up here in north TX, too! We hit 103 two days in a row. WAY too hot for June! Anyway, enjoy your new home!

    Beth,

Love the view, toenails and all. But watch those babies at night when they go for their constitutions. The coyotes will soon discover they live there. I always had to have the spot lights on when I took my babies out and stayed with them while they did their thing.
Enjoy the area. I still wish I could live in the country.
