Squelching Bridge Rumor
My bridge (as I fondly refer to it now) is not being torn down. Far from it. If anything, it might be getting a new coat of paint, although I think that might strip it of some character. I told my commissioner just that when he mentioned the possibility of a new paint job. It helps to have a friend who works for the County Judge who can get you straight to the right people. Thanks, Babette!! And, thanks to Gary for clearing up this frightful rumor!
I said in an earlier post that there seems to be something special about this bridge. You can just feel it. Not only is the bridge romantic (i.e. the love letter), but it seems to invoke a sense of calm and peacefulness, something I strive for in all of my books--and in life.
There's a plaque on the bridge, and I had no idea what it was, so I asked Commissioner Gary about this. Evidently Donald Frank Watkins liked this bridge a lot also...so much so that he had his ashes spread from it when he died in 2004. What a beautiful final resting place.
Keep those ideas coming about what happened to the mysterious letter. And send me your thoughts, prayers, and inspirations, and I'll make a trip to the bridge soon to post them. Today, when I went to take this picture, there was a truck on the bridge, stopped. A man was reading the notes. Wonder if any of them touched him in a certain way, or spoke to him directly. Hmm...

AW!!! It makes it even more special that he had his ashes spread there!! Maybe that is what you feel when you go there, his spirit! I think I will mail you a note to put on there for me. I know just the thing, too. I found it a few minutes ago going thru stuff from moving. I wrote a poem about my Dad after he died, I had forgotten about it. It made me cry to read it again... Keep us posted on the bridge!!! Maybe you can put that into a future book!! You'll have to come up with a special name for the bridge!!

Beth - Now I definitely think there is something spiritual to that bridge. And yes, I agree that the bridge needs to stay as is and not be painted. Next time I see the Commissioner I will voice my opinion on that as well. AND I believe God drew you to this bridge so you can have lots of ideas for your books -- think about it!

Thank God the Bridge will still stand! So many beautiful old things, with character, are destroyed. Thanks for finding out for us Beth! I can't wait to read the book you write about the Bridge and the letter left on it!
