Happy New Year...and the Winner Is...

Happy New Year!  Hope everyone had a great holiday.  I'm a couple of days behind announcing the winner of the contest for one of my books.  Sorry!  Today is my birthday, and I went with my husband and son to lunch and to see the movie 'Avatar'.  Not really my type of movie, but it was good, and the special affects were really awesome.  I'm hoping to go see Blind Side soon.  I've heard great things about that movie!

And the winner of one of my books is SHAYLA VILLINES!!  Shayla, email me at author@bethwiseman.net with your address and which book you would like to have.  Congrats!

Here's a couple of pics from our New Years celebration:

Me and Patrick.  We went to a local place on the town square for dinner.
Me and best friend, Renee'.  Her son is still in the hospital, but what a blessing that he was doing well enough for her to come spend New Years with us!

My son, Cory, asked me today what my New Years resolutions are.  Two things are the same every year - eat less, exercise more...LOL.  But I also told him I just want to focus on being a better person, more generous to those less fortunate, and I need to continue working on one specific thing that I write about in my books - FEAR.  I worry way too much, and I'm fearful about so much - will my kids be ok, will I continue to write books people want to read, will my mom stay healthy, etc...  I know in my heart that it's pointless.  Things happen in God's time, and everything is His will...so worrying is futile, and it makes it harder to hear God.  I'll be working on elimanting fear and stress this year.

Did you make any New Years resolutions?  Would love to hear...

I believe that your gift of writing comes from God and if you listen to Him he will give you the story that brings about His will. Rely on him, put your trust not in what you can do yourself but what He can do through you. I like the Amish books but also like anything with orphans and adoption themes. I believe you already do all this...it is just a reminder. It also goes for the "mommy worries"...trust God with your children and to use you everyday and enjoy the ride. Sherry

Sherry, I believe you are correct that the Lord is inspiring these ladies to spread His love through their writing and reach the people He wants to reach. I ask Him each day to continue to lead them, just as I ask Him each day to lead me to do His will! Giving ourselves to the Lord to be used as He needs us is indeed a glorious ride!

Happy Birthday, Beth! Glad you had a special day. That's a great resolution to try not to worry so much. Our daughter Brenda told me once that it's a sin to worry because that means we aren't trusting God and that God doesn't want us to worry, He wants us to trust Him. I had never thought of it that way, but it's helped me as I try to learn to give things to Him and trust He'll handle them in the way He knows is best. It's easier "said than done," but I'm working on it!

What a wonderful resolution....to worry less and listen more. If only it were that easy. But just to make yourself aware that you are worring might make you do it less. Lets hope it works, because I am adding it to my resolutionsC!

Hi Beth, I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your book "Plain Perfect". My daughter bought it for me for Christmas and I cannot wait to get my hands on more of your books! Regarding the fear issue...as a mom and a worrier, I too have struggled with it, but I found this..."To overcome fear, one must put aside his/her own life and serve another. The opposite of fear is love. 1 John 4:18 states, “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear.” To cast out fear, one must put aside his/her own life and focus on their actions benefiting others. This is what Jesus did for us. “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45). I know this helped me, maybe it will help you. It sounds like you are on the right track! I hope you had a great birthday and your new year is blessed! Leanne
