Choose the Cover for PLAIN PURSUIT!

My publisher--Thomas Nelson--is considering a repackaged version of Plain Pursuit, book #2 in the Daughters of the Promise series.  They would like for readers to vote!  So, which cover captures your attention?  Which one would you be tempted to grab off the shelf at the bookstore?

Thanks so much for participating, and thank you to Thomas Nelson for truly listening to readers.  (Readers chose the cover for book #4 in the series, Plain Paradise.)

Here's the back cover copy to help you make a decision:

Carley has given up chasing her dreams.  Now her dreams are chasing her.

Carley Marek experiences culture shock when she visits her friend Lillian's family on their farm deep in Amish country.  She'll get an article out of the visit--and maybe some of Lillian's newfound peace will somehow rub off on her.

Just when Carley is getting used to the quiet nature of the Plain community, Lillian and Samuel's son falls ill.  But the local doctor who can offer the most help has been shunned by the community and forbidden to intervene.

As David's condition deteriorates, Dr. Noah determines to do whatever it takes to save the boy's life.  Carley is caught in the middle--drawn to Noah, wanting to be helpful in the crisis--and confused by all their talk about a God she neither knows nor trusts.

Carley must decide what in life is worth pursuing...and what to do when she's pursued by a love she never expected.

   The original cover...

OR...
  The proposed cover...

I, personally think that the original cover is the best. The other one's nice, but I always liked seeing David and Samuel as well as Lillian. That's just my opinion. I already own this book, so it's just an opinion now.

i really like the second cover as it shows she is not from the area. yet, her eyes are confused and wondering about her own beliefs in life too. the first cover shows that instead of the story being about carley, it would be about david. for me i would get the book anyway. have a good week.

(However, since the book deals more with Carley, the one with the girl is pretty nice too.)

I agree with you, Melinda. That doesn't seem like Carley to me at all. She looks like a kid.

I also don't understand the kids walking away in the background. It's like their going to school, but since school doesn't play a role in the book, it seems out of place.

Despite the fact that I don't think the girl on the new cover looks like Carley to me, if perhaps they made David smaller and moved him over to where his parents stand, then add the close up of Carley, I would like that.

If I had to choose between the two covers posted, I would say stick with the original.

I definately like the Original best. I do not like the Proposed cover at all. My alternate suggestion would be the original cover with Carley added. David could be looking at her, as it appears that he is looking at something on the original. Perfect solution!

The original cover catches my eye as a sequel to the first because of the boys Amish hat. The second choice is a beautiful cover and I would have liked to have the girl in the original but having the Amish clothing be prominent catches my eye.

I like the proposed cover, for the simple reason it shows both the english and amish life styles. And that is Carley's dilemma to return to her english life, or to be more in or a part of the amish community.

I think that because I am somewhat a traditionalist, the original cover appeals to me the most, however some younger people might be attracted to the new version and therefore try it. So go with the new one and attract a new generation of readers,

why the repackage, seems silly to me and a little confusing to your fans. I like the orginial cover, don't like the looks of Carley one the new one. Why the messy hair? She looks wild.I imagined her totally different, could be why I prefer books to movies adapted from books. Keep writing, I may your biggest fan.

After reading the book, I don't think the character that is selected to portray Carley on the front cover does it any justice.

That is a hard decision. I like the first cover because it shows the boy, David, and he is instrumental in getting his Uncle back to the family. But then Carly is a main character in the book too. I think I like the traditional Amish in the first, but I also like the thought of an outsider being accepted into the folds of the amish community and the second photo seems to reflect on that. So of course I am of no help in making a decision, but want to let you know that I like them both. If I had to choose I would stick with the first cover.

I choose the second one. It adds a bit of mystery to story. The reader will wonder why a plain family is walking away from a outsider. The cover alone would make me want to read the book without knowing anything about it.

    Hi Beth

I don't like the new 'proposed' cover at all...In my opinion it takes away from the true simplicity and pure beauty of the Amish countryside that is on the original cover...sort of gives it a "cosmo" appearance, which subtracts from the plain, simple nature of the Amish.
